We were happy to fulfill a Grant request to Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program. Their mission is to educate, support, empower, and advocate for breast cancer patients, professionals, and the community.
Our Grant funds will be used to facilitate their Creative Arts support group. This innovative, psychoeducational, creative arts support group series meets online for four-week workshops and is co-facilitated by an artist and a licensed social worker. Group facilitators provide a safe place for up to 15 participants to communicate their thoughts, feelings, concerns, problems, hopes and dreams. Each of the four sessions is 90-minutes in length and it will be offered over a HIPAA compliant version of ZOOM. Professional staff members guide women through different exercises and discussions helping them discover new ways to gain personal insight and develop much-needed coping skills. Their support group in January of 2022 will focus on Self-Care and all sessions will include a relaxation/breathing exercise. Participants will complete several creative projects focusing on self-awareness. These projects will help reduce negativity and will be self-soothing resulting in stress reduction.
