Our Philanthropy is in action again, this time with a very special Grant award being made to GILDA’S CLUB, Rochester, part of the CANCER SUPPORT COMMUNITY. Cancer Support Community is the largest professionally led nonprofit network of cancer support worldwide, and is dedicated to ensuring that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community. A timely Grant award, as September was Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. This nonprofit was named for comedienne Gilda Radner, who succumbed to Ovarian Cancer in 1989. Gilda’s Club Rochester has been serving the Greater Rochester community since 1959, first as Cancer Action, Inc., and then in 2000 as Gilda’s Club. They receive over 17,800 visits yearly with over 1,200 FREE programs offered to men, women, teens and children who are affected by cancer. Their programs offer much-needed social and emotional support to those living with cancer along with their families and friends. Members can choose from a range of programs, including support groups, art and healthy cooking classes, exercise programs, fun events and lectures from experts in the cancer and wellness fields.
